“We are very excited to have been invited and to participate in this unique event in Canada’s Tournament Capital,” said Football BC Technical Director Dino Geremia. “We are looking forward to showcasing some of the best young football talent we have in our province to the Legacy Games fans in Kamloops.”
“The Kamloops Legacy Games is extremely excited to have U13 and Grade 8 football teams included in our Games,” said Duncan Olthuis, Sports and Games Coordinator with the Kamloops Sports Council. “To have such a major sport participating gives the KLPG so much more recognition.
“We know the participants will have a great time practicing and playing up at one of the best football stadiums in Canada, which is also home of the BC Lions Training Camp. With football not being involved in any multi sport Games we think that this is a great opportunity for football athletes to experience what it is like in a multi sport Games environment.”
The coaching staff for the event will include former UBC Thunderbirds Football Team head coach and current U18 Team BC head coach Jay Prepchuk, two-time CJFL Coach of the Year Nick Kawaza, as well as former CFL players JR LaRose (Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions) and Paris Jackson (Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions, Ottawa REDBLACKS).
As part of the weekend’s activities, Football BC will also be hosting an NCCP Introduction to Competition and Safe Contact Clinic for coaches. Details are available at www.playfootball.bc.ca.
Members of the media are invited to attend all on-field practice sessions and games.
