The BC Sports Hall of Fame announced today that the late Denny Veitch will be inducted as part of the Class of 2015 in the Builder category.
Though perhaps known by as many as the general of the other "football" club in Vancouver - he was the Whitecaps general manager from 1973 to 1977 - Veitch was quite heavily involved in our football.
Veitch lost his arm at age six but still had a successful playing career first with Kitsilano High School and then later on with the Vancouver Meralomas of Junior Football. He'd eventually become head coach of the Meralomas leading them to a BC Championship.
He would later join the BC Lions as their minor football coordinator before taking over as their GM from 1967 to 1970. Veitch was honoured with a Pioneer Award at the 2010 Orange Helmet Awards. Veitch passed away on December 22, 2011.
Another football name going into the BC Sports Hall of Fame is former Lions play-by-play man J.P. McConnell in the Media category. McConnell was inducted into the BC Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
