Letter from Coach Dino:
The May Long Weekend camp is the second stage of the Team BC process. There are eventually 80 players selected to represent BC at the U16 level and 36 at the U18 level.
The May camp is made up of five practices and a scrimmage so that players can be completely evaluated. We expect that players will come to camp in great shape and ready for an intense training camp schedule.
Players are required to bring their own equipment.
All players will stay at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond and will be supervised throughout the entire weekend. It is a busy schedule of practices, meetings, video and football-related presentations. Players will walk to practice each day at Minoru Park, which is approximately 15 minutes away from the hotel on foot.
In addition to it being a high level camp, players will have their accommodation and meals covered as well as receive a Team BC clothing package including t-shirt, shorts and practice jersey.
Team BC has had success in recent years competing nationally and internationally and it is due in large part to our training camp structure which emphasizes players eating, staying and playing football together. These factors help to build the camaraderie essential for success in the game of football.
For family and friends who wish to stay in the area, a room block option either at the same hotel or one of the neighbouring hotels in the complex will be available.
We look forward to seeing you all at May camp.
Coach Dino Geremia
Is staying at the hotel mandatory for all players?
Yes, all players are required to stay as a team for the duration of the weekend. Your payment includes the accommodation fees.
If parents wish to stay at the same hotel, can they?
Due to limited space in that hotel complex (Sheraton, Hilton, Marriott), we are unfortunately unable to set up a block reservation for parents there as we've been informed all hotels there are fully booked for that weekend. Parents are welcome to try and book accommodations in one of those hotels but we do not have access to special rates.
Sandman Signature Hotel & Resort Vancouver Airport offer details:
Through our ongoing partnership with the Sandman, Football BC has arranged for preferred rates at the Sandman Signature Hotel & Resort Vancouver Airport for that weekend (May 16 - 20).
The rates are as follows (prices listed are per night and do not include taxes):
$131 (Signature Executive Two Queens)
To book, please call the hotel at 604-278-9611 and quote Group Reference #437670.
For all parents who are booking a hotel in Richmond, we ask that you please inform the hotel you are with the "Football BC" event. Football BC has applied for a grant with the City of Richmond and the more business we help bring in, the more potential grant money we receive which goes back to helping offset the participation costs for Team BC players selected to participate in upcoming tournaments.
