Team Friesen defeats Team Kelly at the 2014 Senior Bowl

LANGLEY - A 10-point second quarter, capped off with QB Ty Marshall (Windsor Dukes) connecting with REC Manvir Khun-Khun (Vancouver College Fighting Irish) in the end zone in the dying seconds of the first half, helped propel Team Friesen to a 24-6 victory at the 2014 Senior Bowl Game at McLeod Athletic Park.

Team Friesen, named after coach Jerry Friesen (UBC Thunderbirds) who served as the defensive coordinator of the 2014 Senior Bowl camp, also got a major score from RB Braeden Pritchard (White Rock Titans) and a 105-yard pick-six from DB Jake Firlotte (WJ Mouat Hawks) en route to their convincing victory.

QB Josiah Joseph (Mt. Boucherie Bears) had the lone score for Team Kelly, who was named after Denis Kelly of the WJ Mouat Hawks and was also the Offensive Coordinator for the 2014 Senior Bowl camp.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Team Friesen drew first blood after forcing Team Kelly to concede a safety. It appeared, for a while, that the teams would go into the locker rooms at half time with Team Friesen holding just a slim 2-0 lead before Marshall manage to lead his team down field and connect with Khun-Khun with a late touchdown in the opening half.

A successful two-point conversion would make it 10-0 at half-time.

After Team Friesen made it 17-0 on Pritchard’s score, Team Kelly would get on the scoreboard on a drive capped by Joseph’s rushing touchdown.

Team Kelly had an opportunity late in the fourth quarter to pull within one major score with Joseph hooking up several times with REC Eldridge Sellers V (Terry Fox Ravens) to march them deep into Team Friesen territory but the drive would be stalled by Firlotte’s pick-six which would ultimately seal the deal for Team Friesen.

REC AJ Blackwell (Carson Graham Eagles) was named the Offensive MVP for Team Friesen while DL Conner Novak (Kelowna Owls) earned Defensive MVP honours for Team Friesen.

QB Brody Taylor (John Barsby Bulldogs) was named the Offensive MVP for Team Kelly while DL Jonathan Kongbo (Holy Cross Crusaders) earned Defensive MVP honours for Team Kelly.
