Posted on 2013-10-30 12:50:44

Sports Cardiology BC has begun a study that screens young competitive athletes for cardiovascular disease that can lead to sudden cardiac death. The inclusion criteria is as follows; No previous known cardiovascular disease, aged 12-35 and competitive athlete. Competitive is defined as: An individual that participates in an organized sports program that requires regular, intense, training and competition and also places an emphasis on achievement during these competitions.

The study endpoints are to determine the prevalence of cardiovascular disease that can lead to sudden cardiac death in a subset of the population and to determine the effectiveness of a screen program.

If your team or you as an individual qualifies as a candidate please contact Daniel Lithwick at dlithwick@sportscardiologybc.org or Barb Morrison at bmorrison@sportscardiologybc.org.

There is a fundamental lack of Canadian data in this area and we are excited to be among the first to explore it.
