BURNABY, B.C. – Football BC announced today the 40-player for the provincial under-16 tackle team (“U-16 Team BC”) that will represent British Columbia at the 2013 Red River Cup to be held from July 6 to 13, 2013 at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The roster can be downloaded from: http://www.playfootball.bc.ca/uploads/U16TeamBC2013Final40roster.pdf.
U-16 Team BC’s roster is comprised of seven defensive backs, six defensive linemen, seven offensive linemen, six linebackers, six receivers, four running backs, three quarterbacks and one kicker/punter.
The roster is conditional on the players being named to the team successfully completing the registration process and confirming their spot.
In the event a player is unable to compete due to injury and/or personal reasons, the team will name a substitute(s) selected from the list of players that took part in the recent tryout camp.
Of the 40 players named, 11 played this past season either primarily with or partially with a BC Community Football Association team while 31 of the players were involved with a BC High School Football team.
“We are very pleased with the level of competition and improvement through the evaluation process,” said U-16 Team BC head coach, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Sean Roden. “We believe that the combination of hungry and spirited players that have been selected to be part of U-16 Team BC, along with our accomplished coaching staff, position us well for success.”
In addition to Roden (Nanaimo Redmen), the other members of the coaching staff are offensive coordinator and receivers coach Mark McDonald (South Delta Sun Devils), offensive line coach Neil Cartwright (UBC Thunderbirds), defensive line coach Glenn Cook (John Barsby Bulldogs), quarterbacks coach Suresh Parray (Chilliwack Giants), running backs coach Mike Derksen (Chilliwack Giants) and defensive backs coach Jordan Liberman (Terry Fox Ravens).
